An ancient box is found, and its mysterious occupants released. They seem benign, the small, floating creatures freed from the box… until they begin multiplying. Until Guy, Saul, Emily, and her ten-year old twins find themselves sucked into a whirlpool of terror. For the pretty little floaters have bonded them, and are taking something from them… and giving back something even more dangerous.
What they give back is new to the world. It is something three desperate mercenaries want, and will kill to get. Unable to negotiate with their murderous hunters, Guy, Saul, Emily, and the girls find themselves fleeing for their lives.
Yet, unknown to all, a deeper threat is growing: Without a Keeper, the creatures are making their move…
This book was definitely different for me. It isn’t my usual read but it spiked my interest so decided to give it a shot. At first I wasn’t sure of how all the characters played their part. Who was the main character and how they all fit into the puzzle so at first I was a bit confused. However, I told myself just keep going don’t give up the minute you don’t fully understand let’s give the book a chance to tell you. Good news it does tell you and after awhile you come to understand how they are all connected. Yay! I have to say I like all the characters minus Gary. I mean really? I absolutely HATE Gary!! He acknowledges the fact that he treats his wife Beth bad and yet he states that it is her fault he does it.? He says she is a possession and I don’t care if it is a fictional book or not or whether some men are like that in real life because let’s face it there are but why would you want to write about a character who is just like that? Women are NOT possessions! How can you write a character who gets excited over being jealous? I really don’t like Gary and very seriously thought about dnfing this book just because of him. Later on in the story he kills Beth. What does he say? That she’d provoked her own death. It was her actions that caused his reactions. SAY WHAT? NOONE PROVOKES THEIR OWN DEATH!! NO WAY SHOULD MURDER BE CLASSIFIED AS A REACTION!! I know this is a book but come on. There could have been a better way to write that character. Right? I mean seriously.? Again this book I about of my norm. for me and I reminded myself that this book is a supernatural thriller. The main part being thriller, meaning that there will need to be a bad character, or villain and in this case it was a good for nothing little prick. So I decided to try to continue. I don’t necessarily like Crystal either but again she is also a Villain. My favorite characters are the twins. I especially love not only their bond but what their “floaters” help them accomplish or rather what they enhance. I understand that the “floaters” have some special abilities or something and some are cool while others are confusing. I am half way through the book now. I tried to have it all the way read before this post was to go up but unfortunately it didn’t happen. This books pace is slow and it was hard to pick up at times. At the half way point I still know nothing about the “floaters” except like I said before it appears to enhance what they are feeling, maybe in a way but it also I am not sure how to put it….. they also are capable of other things that aren’t suppose to be actually be able to happen. Now at the half way point I am disappointed at the lack of knowledge I have about these “floaters” especially since this book is somehow suppose to be the “floaters” trying to take over the world or something to that effect since their is no proper keeper. But seriously, fifty percent into the book and for that far I really don’t know a whole bunch. To be honest as it stands right now I am going to rate this book 3 Stars. It’s ok but it isn’t great and with only the last half of the book left I don’t know that there will be enough time for this book to make those 3 Stars any higher. Not without the end of the book feeling rushed and I don’t like that feeling either. Unfortunately I just don’t think this one was for me but hey you never know until you try!
