Sometimes secrets kill. Maybe slowly, maybe painfully. Maybe all at once.
Melissa smiles. She flirts. She jokes. But she never shows her scars. Eight months after tragedy ripped her from her closest friend, Melissa is broken. Inside her grows a tumor, fed by grief, rage, and the painful memory of a single forbidden kiss.
Javier has scars of his own: a bullet wound, and the memory of a cousin shot in the heart. Life in the States was supposed to be a new beginning, but a boy obsessed by vengeance has no time for the American dream. To honor his familia, Javier joins the gang who set up his cousin’s murder. The entrance price is blood. Death is the only escape.
These two broken souls could make each other whole again–or be shattered forever.
Our time will come. And we’ll be ready.
I always love when a book like this one, second in a series or trilogy or whatnot, is told from another characters point of view. You already know a little about the character from the first book but the second gives you a more clear story of them and put the first main characters into the background of the second book. Still there but not the main. It gives the book a more surreal feel. I can see how each individual plays there part in the story. Makes it more real so to speak. This one does all of that.
When Amber wrote her first book and then this book. She writes about struggles and how some of us are just dealt a bad freaking hand but how when faced with bad luck and a hard life we still have the chance to turn it all around. There is always HOPE! I love books that remind me that everyone has their own baggage, their own set of demons. No two peoples will be 100 percent the same as another but all have similarities. That with all the negative in the world why put out more hate and evil? Why not put into the world some good even with the smallest act of kindness, acceptance, even as small as smiling a stranger can change that persons day. Even if you only have an impact on one, ONE single person all day. Well I have to say At least that’s one and it’s better then zero and we can try again tomorrow. That’s all the stuff the I read between the actual story. The feels that you feel as I was reading and seeing these characters lives on fold in my minds eye.
We all play a part in life, in this world just like characters of a book play a part in the book and the story as a whole. Some like Amazing Amber Hart writes to play her part in the world which in my personal opinion is to remind people that enough evil in the world exists no matter what mask or name you want to call the evil by, so instead of being part of the problem and causing or affecting more evil to happen why not shed so good in the world. Remember that scars are beautiful because they are tales of a hard battle won, overcome. It doesn’t matter how we wear our scars or how they got there what matters is we all each got or are getting or going through are own scars. In our own time we will tell the right people so we don’t carry all the burden alone. Until then it’s okay. We are alive and breathing and that’s more then some of us have.
Thank you Amber Hart for writing a beautiful story and a beautiful message. If you haven’t read this series please do yourself a favor and read it. It is wonderful!!
NOW LETS GO OUT AND PUT SOMETHING POSITIVE INTO THIS ALREADY NEGATIVE WORLD WE LIVE IN!!!!!
