Recruited at his death to be a Protector of the Night, seventeen-year-old Daniel Graham has spent two-hundred years fighting Nightmares and guarding humans from the clawed, red-eyed creatures that feed off people’s fears. Each night, he risks his eternal life, having given up his chance at an afterlife when he chose to become a Protector. That doesn’t stop a burnt-out Daniel from risking daring maneuvers during each battle. He’s become one of the best, but he wants nothing more than to stop.
Then he’s given an assignment to watch over sixteen-year-old Kayla Bartlett, a clinically depressed patient in a psychiatric ward. Nightmares love a human with a tortured past. Yet, when they take a deep interest in her, appearing in unprecedented numbers, the job becomes more dangerous than any Daniel’s ever experienced. He fights ruthlessly to keep the Nightmares from overwhelming his team and Kayla. Soon, Daniel finds himself watching over Kayla during the day, drawn to why she’s different, and what it is about her that attracts the Nightmares. And him.
A vicious attack on Kayla forces Daniel to break the first Law and reveal his identity. Driven by his growing feelings for her, he whisks her away to Rome where others like him can keep her safe. Under their roof, the Protectors discover what Kayla is and why someone who can manipulate Nightmares has her in his sights. But before they can make a move, the Protectors are betrayed and Kayla is kidnapped. Daniel will stop at nothing to save her. Even if it means giving up his immortality.
Dreamcatchers, Dreamweavers, and Nightmares, not as in just nightmares that one has while asleep but actual beings that are called Nightmares. If these terms alone don’t have your interested peaked then maybe you should just keep reading or maybe you should ask yourself why in the world would that not spark your interest, either way right into the book at the first sentence my attention was gotten and my attention was held all the way through this book. I have never read a book based around dreams people have. The concept of having actual demon beings that are called nightmares invade my dreams in order to force me to have a nightmare is a very unique, creative way of thinking. Not only is that creative but the whole concept behind it with the dreamcatchers, who fight off the nightmares once they come to those humans asleep in their peaceful dreams. Their duty is to kill off the nightmares without them interfering with the dreamweavers, which are the other realm beings who give us humans our good dreams. We all know and can name probably several books in which good take on evil and this is another side of that only this side of good versus evil is done while we sleep. Protectors of Night are like the angels and the Nightmares are the evil demons or devils or whatever other evil names you can come up with. You can only become a Protector of Night, or rather a DreamCatcher, one must have sacrificed his life for the sake of others. It’s like the ultimate sacrifice you can give on earth is rewarded with becoming a DreamCatcher in the afterlife. I was really fascinated with this book all the way around. From the concept, to the details, through the entirety of the book in all its adventures. This is a must read book (at least to me it is)!!!
If you are looking for something different but so perfect that it just is well that perfect then this is definitely the book for you. I couldn’t stop reading once I started and like I have already previously stated but can’t help but repeat it’s so unique and different. I’m in awe of this book and the author. To be able to come up with such a book and be able to put into writing this concept. It’s talent. I feel like words don’t do it justice you just have to read it to understand how awesome this book is. So please Go to your nearest book store now and buy this book and read it!!
