Seventeen-year-old Alexa enters a strange tunnel on a nameless road; and her life changes forever. She is sent to the future, where the earth is ravaged by mutated animals and ruled by the Others: monsters that were once human. Before a mutated dog tears her to shreds, she is rescued and taken to Shelter, where the few human survivors remain.

There, she meets two warrior brothers, Micah and Tane. Micah is warm-hearted and flirtatious, while his brother is mysterious and guarded. Despite her better judgment, Alexa is drawn to the dangerous Tane, but she has bigger problems than unrequited emotion.

Soon, she questions how she ended up in the future. Why did the tunnel choose her, and why are the people of Shelter so welcoming? Tane is entrusted with her protection, but even more questions arise as Alexa begins to suspect the Others are out to get her. Alexa could hold the power to save the human race, but first, she must make a devastating choice that will alter the fate of the world.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.

My Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Once I sat down to read it I couldn’t put it down. I read it all in roughly 6 hours. I probably would have been done with it sooner had I not had to stop and eat dinner and give my kids a bath before bed but nevertheless I managed to finish in merely just hours after starting it. It grabbed my attention from the first sentence of the prologue and held it through the entirety of the book. It’s fast paced and flows greatly. There was so much going on but it was so fun. I am an animal lover so to read about how one imagined different animals mutating and coming up with different breads it was very interesting. Then the whole “unrequited emotions” for Tane but wait what about Micah? You will have to find out by reading it.! There was so much action inside this 258 page book that you just can’t get bored with it. It just isn’t humanly possible!

Alexa I can relate a lot to but I can also relate to Tane and Micah. I think that is another reason why this book was so good. Each character has his or her own attributes and personality. No two characters were alike but I could relate to each one of them in their own ways. The strength Alexa has as a woman and a selfless one at that. Willing to do what it takes to survive. Oh the story is so good. You just have to read it and find out for yourself. I’m afraid if I tell you any more I will include spoilers which I do not want to do at all so all I have left to say is this:

If you are looking for a book that is different but keeps you entertained and intrigued that whole way through. A fast but steady paced book that you could read fairly quickly. This is a book for you. Please read it and let me know if you share my liking for it.!
